The museum is dedicated to the cultural commemoration of the restaurant and hotel trade as well as to food and drink culture in general. It is housed in Hünegg Castle, which was built in Hilterfingen by Lake Thun between 1861 and 1863.
The museum leads guests through the history of food and drink culture. In this unique setting, visitors can find out how a duck press works, learn what distinguishes service à la française from service à la russe and discover the traditional customs that can still be observed in interactions between patrons and their hosts in Swiss restaurants today. Those who wish, can have a go at carrying several plates in one hand and folding napkins for the table.
Open from mid-May to mid-October.
