Description

Sargans Castle, which also houses the Sarganserland Museum, is certainly well worth a visit. There’s plenty to discover about the culture and history of the Sarganserland in the 900-year-old tower of the castle.
Sargans Castle has had a colourful history, spending 200 years in the hands of aristocrats and more than 300 years under the reign of the local bailiffs. At the end of the 19th century, the Sargans community bought the dilapidated building and saved it from finally falling into ruin through numerous renovations. Today, the former aristocratic seat houses one of the most important local museums in Europe.

The Sarganserland Museum is housed in the castle tower. Spread over the six floors of the tower, you can learn everything about the area’s history and local crafts, the Gonzen mine as well as work on the farm and alpine life around the Sarganserland. Both stimulating and informative, it brings the history of the region and its people to life.

The castle restaurant invites hungry and thirsty visitors to linger a while.
